The Academy Software Foundation is an open source project founded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (or the titular Academy of the Academy Awards). For their 2019 and 2020 Open Source Days events, they were looking for a new event theme with full creative freedom that would be fun, playful, and energetic, to reflect the creativity of the film and animation industries that the ASWF serves.
The project began with an event logo design in 2019, when I presented a few different rough lettering concepts before fine-tuning the chosen design. The following year, the ASWF wanted to use the same event logo but needed to expand. Using the existing logo as a launchpad, I created abstract illustrated elements to develop a broader event theme that I implemented across promotional graphics, presentation templates, Zoom backgrounds and a t-shirt design for the 2020 event.
